Notables include Benjamin Roberts, plaintiff, first known U. S. public school desegregation suit; Supreme Court Justices Joseph Story (ruling, Amistad Case) and Benjamin R. Curtis (dissent, Dred Scott Decision); and early NAACP lawyers Clement Morgan and William H. Lewis.
